Ek Beti, Ek Cycle means one daughter, one cycle. His sister, Pragnya Mohan, founded it as an IOC Young Leaders project, and the programme is supported through that initiative, whose founding partner is Panasonic. The pilot began in November 2023.
Village schools often stop at class 8, so girls travel 5 to 10 km each way to a high school. The organisation says about 60% drop out without affordable transport. Private school students donate bicycles they no longer use, the bicycles are refurbished, and rural schools identify the girls who receive them. Camps of four to five days teach road confidence and basic repairs such as punctures and chains.
Manage project logistics for the programme.
Present the organisation's work at panels across India and at COP29 in Baku.
Reach more than 1,000 girls across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Pune district in two years.
Scale the model to more cities, with a stated aim of thousands more girls, and a public goal of 1 million girls by 2030.
The programme has been covered by Olympics.com, BBC, TIME Magazine, the UN, Global Cycling Network and The Times of India. Visit Ek Beti, Ek Cycle.
